The Stone Catfish (Heteropneustes spp.) is a peaceful, nocturnal bottom-dweller perfect for community and planted aquariums. This hardy fish thrives in soft, sandy substrates with plenty of hiding spots such as driftwood, rocks, or dense plant cover. Its natural habitat includes slow-moving streams and rivers with high dissolved oxygen and cooler water, so maintaining clean, well-aerated water is essential for its health.
Stone Catfish are strictly nocturnal, feeding mostly at night. While they will accept small dried pellets, their diet should be primarily live or frozen foods like bloodworms, daphnia, and tubifex. Providing a varied diet ensures proper nutrition and enhances their activity levels. These catfish are peaceful with other bottom-dwellers and are ideal for nano and medium community aquariums when kept in soft, clean water with stable parameters.
