Star moss

 ( Syntrichia ruralis ) , commonly known as Star Moss, is a resilient and visually striking moss species prized for its distinctive star-shaped leaf rosettes. Size: Stems typically 1-4 cm tall, forming dense clumps. 

Habitats: Tundra, forests, grasslands, disturbed soils, rocky areas, even urban cracks.

Light: Tolerates full sun to partial shade; Tortella tortuosa can handle direct sun.

Moisture: Drought-tolerant once established but prefers moist, well-draining soil; needs humidity for terrariums.

Soil: Adaptable to various soils, including sandy or acidic. 

Applications: Landscaping, green roofs, terrariums, vivariums, bonsai, and as ground cover.

Aquatic Use: Syntrichia ruralis (often called Aquatic Star Moss) can survive submerged in aquariums for months.
