Pearl Moss (Plagiomnium affine) brings natural elegance to aquascapes with its distinctive pearl-like foliage cascading delicately along visible stems. This versatile moss thrives in moist environments, from woodland habitats to aquarium setups, adapting well to low-to-medium lighting conditions. While CO2 supplementation enhances growth, it remains manageable without it. Perfect for aquascaping enthusiasts, Pearl Moss attaches beautifully to wood and rocks, creating lush epiphytic displays. Beyond aesthetics, it serves ecological benefits by retaining moisture and enriching substrates, making it an excellent choice for both planted tanks and naturalistic aquatic designs.
Appearance: Upright stems with roundish, toothed leaves arranged in diagonal rows, resembling a string of pearls.
Habitat: Natural (terrestrial) in moist, shaded areas, forests, riverbanks; Aquarium (aquatic/emersed) on hardscapes.
Growth: Can trail and reach up to 10 cm long, growing slowly but steadily.
Lighting: Tolerates low to medium light but benefits from higher light for better growth.
CO2: Often recommended for healthier, more vibrant growth.
Placement: Attaches well to rocks, driftwood, or can be used in the foreground/middle ground for contrast.
Propagation: Easily propagated by splitting or cutting off new growth.
