Pea Puffer Care & Overview

The Pea Puffer is a nano-sized, fully freshwater pufferfish known for its big personality and curious behavior. This small fish is popular in planted and nano aquariums where careful planning is used. The Pea Puffer is intelligent, alert, and often interacts with its keeper, making it a fascinating choice for aquarists who enjoy observing fish behavior closely.

Pea Puffer Behavior and Tank Setup

The Pea Puffer can be territorial, especially males, so décor is essential. Dense plants, rocks, and driftwood help break lines of sight and reduce aggression. This fish swims slowly and should not be kept with fast or long-finned species, which may be attacked. It can coexist with some small, peaceful fish but should not be housed with dwarf shrimp.

Feeding and Diet

The Pea Puffer is carnivorous and often ignores dry foods. Frozen bloodworms and other meaty frozen foods are preferred. Small snails are a natural food source and help support healthy feeding behavior.
