Hengeli Rasbora (Glowlight Rasbora)

Hengeli rasbora (Trigonostigma hengeli), also known as the Glowlight Rasbora, is a peaceful and visually striking schooling fish that fits perfectly into nano and planted aquariums. Native to Southeast Asia, Hengeli rasbora is admired for its glowing orange-copper stripe that stands out beautifully against its translucent body. This species adds constant movement and color to the mid-water level of the aquarium.

Appearance and Size

Hengeli rasbora grows to about 1–1.5 inches, making it ideal for smaller aquariums. The signature bright orange to copper stripe, often described as a “glow” or hockey-stick marking, becomes more intense in well-maintained, planted tanks. When kept in groups, their coloration appears even more vibrant.

Behavior and Tank Requirements

This is a peaceful schooling species and should always be kept in groups of at least 8–10. Hengeli rasbora feels most secure in planted aquariums with subdued lighting and open swimming space. A minimum tank size of 15–20 gallons is recommended for a healthy school.

Water Parameters and Care

Hengeli rasbora prefers soft, slightly acidic water with a pH range of 5.0–6.5, though tank-bred specimens adapt well up to pH 7.5. Ideal temperature ranges between 25–28°C. Stable water conditions and gentle filtration help maintain long-term health.

Diet and Compatibility

Hengeli rasbora is omnivorous and easy to feed. It readily accepts high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, frozen foods, and live foods. It is highly compatible with other small, peaceful fish such as tetras, corydoras, shrimp, and other rasboras.
