The Green Neon Tetra is a stunning freshwater schooling fish known for its intense blue-green shimmer and subtle red accents. Unlike the common neon tetra, the Green Neon Tetra is a distinct species that offers brighter coloration and a more refined look. Tank-bred specimens are highly adaptable, making them an excellent choice for planted, nano, and blackwater aquariums.
Appearance and Coloration
The Green Neon Tetra displays a vivid blue-green stripe that runs along the body, paired with a soft red hue on the lower half. This coloration becomes even more striking under proper aquarium lighting. Growing up to 1 inch, this small fish adds vibrant movement without overwhelming the tank.
Behavior and Compatibility
Green Neon Tetras are peaceful, active schooling fish that thrive when kept in groups of six or more. They occupy the top and mid-water zones and coexist well with other calm community fish. Adult dwarf shrimp are generally safe, though shrimp fry may be eaten.
Tank Requirements and Care
A minimum 10-gallon aquarium with plants, leaf litter, and soft décor is ideal. The Green Neon Tetra prefers warm, soft, slightly acidic water and benefits from tannins. Being omnivorous, it accepts high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen foods with ease.
