The Armadillidium gestroi, or Gestroi Isopod, is a striking terrestrial crustacean featuring bold yellow or white spots against a dark, armor-like exoskeleton. Native to the rocky coasts of Southern France and Italy, these large isopods are ideal for bioactive terrariums and beginner-friendly setups. As natural detritivores, they serve as an excellent cleanup crew, consuming decaying leaves, wood, and organic matter. They thrive in moderate humidity with access to drier zones and require calcium supplementation through limestone or similar sources. These fascinating creatures are low-maintenance and add both functionality and visual interest to any vivarium ecosystem.
