apistogramma trifasciata

Apistogramma Trifasciata – Redfin Three-Striped Dwarf Cichlid

Apistogramma trifasciata is a colorful and lesser-known dwarf cichlid that is highly valued by aquarists. This species is best known for the bright red margin on the dorsal fin of mature males and its striking blue and yellow body coloration. Females display vibrant yellow tones with contrasting black markings, creating clear visual differences between sexes.

Natural Behavior and Aquarium Setup

Apistogramma trifasciata thrives in aquariums with sandy substrates and plenty of hiding areas. Clay pots, driftwood, and rock formations help replicate its preferred environment. This species performs well in planted aquariums but also requires open swimming space for natural behavior.

Compatibility and Social Behavior

This dwarf cichlid is generally peaceful when given adequate space. Territorial behavior increases during spawning periods. Smaller, delicate invertebrates such as dwarf shrimp should be avoided, while larger shrimp and snails may work in larger aquariums.

Feeding and Care

Feeding Apistogramma trifasciata is straightforward. It readily accepts high-quality dry, frozen, and live meaty foods. A varied diet helps maintain coloration and long-term health.
