Apistogramma Agassizii Alenquer

Apistogramma agassizii alenquer is a highly colorful dwarf cichlid variant originating from the Alenquer region of the Amazon Basin in Brazil. This species is especially admired for the intense blue, purple, and yellow coloration seen in adult males, along with their long, lance-shaped tails. Females are more subdued in color but remain attractive and display classic dwarf cichlid behavior.

Aquarium Setup and Habitat

Apistogramma agassizii alenquer thrives in aquariums designed to mimic its natural Amazonian environment. A sandy substrate is essential, along with multiple caves formed by clay pots, driftwood, or natural décor. These fish are well suited for planted aquariums, provided there is enough open space and visual barriers.

Temperament and Tankmates

This species is generally peaceful but becomes territorial during spawning. Apistogramma agassizii alenquer can be kept in community aquariums with calm species such as small tetras, pencilfish, and corydoras, as long as adequate space is provided.

Feeding and Diet

Apistogramma agassizii alenquer is primarily carnivorous and accepts a variety of foods. High-quality flakes, pellets, frozen foods, and live options such as brine shrimp and bloodworms support coloration and overall health.
